Peter Kirk’s Pull (after Lumière), 2010

Daniel Carrillo and Rebecca Cummins

8x10x3 in

Glass, collodion wet plates, wood

Inspired by Louis Lumière’s photo-stéréo-synthesis process enlisted in his Portrait of Auguste Lumière, we created an illusion of three dimensions from collodion glass plates by imaging five different focal lengths of the pull knob on five panes of glass stacked vertically at the requisite intervals to recreate the shape of the knob.

The pull knob is from the English home of Peter Kirk (collection of the Kirkland Historical Society and Kirkland Art Center).  Created for Steambot, Kirkland Art Center.
